How To Take A Road Trip On A Budget!

“Sometimes all you need is a friend and a full tank of gas.”

It’s road trip season!! I don’t know about you but taking a road trip is one of my favorite things to do in the summer. If you’re looking to end your summer off with a BANG with your girlfriends or guy friends this post is for you. I am going to share with you how my friends and I took an affordable trip to Chicago.

Let’s jump into it:

💫 Grab your friends:

If you are really trying to save money and have a good time, invite friends and/or family to join you to help reduce costs.

💫 Choose a location:

Pick a location that has a reasonable driving distance.

💫 Make a must-do list:

Develop a group chat and allow for all group members to share 2-3 things they would like to do during the road trip.

💫 Set a budget:

We must set a dollar amount for the trip. Be flexible and accommodating to make sure all participants can participate.

💫 Create a plan:

You must have a plan for your trip if you want to stay within budget. Creating a detailed itinerary will help you save money, save on uber rides, keep everyone on the same page and make the trip 10x smoother.

💫 Create cash envelopes:

Cash envelopes are essential if you want to make sure you’re staying within budget. For our trip, I requested that all members withdraw cash for transportation fees: gas, tolls, and parking. On the day of the trip, we added all of the money to the envelope and paid for transportation expenses using the cash in the envelope.

💫 Take the eco-friendly route!

Gas prices are high. But with a few new features on Google Maps, you are able to choose fuel-efficient routes and compare gas prices along your route. This can help you save on fuel.

💫 Activities:

Looking for fun, free, frugal activities? Try visiting Eventbrite to find local activities. Don’t forget to include museums/ landmarks in your itinerary.

💫 Ride-share apps:

The best thing that Uber could have done was add “split fare” to their app. If the group decides to use a ride-share app, make sure you split the fare.

💫 Keep everyone included:

Compile a list of must-do activities. Be fair and do your best to honor at least one activity that each member has recommended.

❓: What else can we add to the list? Let me know in the comments.
